Khazar Publications

Khazar University Press

The Khazar University Press (KUP) is a financially separate, scholarly publishing division of Khazar University. Under the aegis of the University, KUP is an editorially independent entity. The primary mission is to seek out and publish books and journals of high intellectual quality and to balance access to educational materials with quality presentation.

The main publications of KUP include textbooks, monographs, conference materials, academic-research journals, magazines, periodicals, translation projects (books translated from English and other languages into Azeri and from Azeri and Russian into English) as well as selected poetry and fiction.

Supporting academic research through publishing has been one of the major goals of Khazar University since the first days of its foundation. First, the University newspaper (later on, magazine) Khazar View has been issued in three languages: Azerbaijani, English and Russian. Since 1995 many interesting materials about university life, academic news, student's rights, university activities, novels and poems by faculty and students, articles of prominent researchers and guests of Khazar University, have been published in Khazar View. Currently, the 40-page Khazar View magazine is issued biweekly.

While developing, the University felt it necessary to establish Khazar University Press. Because of the dramatic changes in the political and economic climate and education system of Azerbaijan, the lack of quality and quantity in publishing has never been so great a problem. Available publications were of low quality, and so KUP started to publish new kinds of research periodicals, textbooks, and other literature mainly in English, Azerbaijani and Russian.

The KUP strives to adapt the experience of other publishers, especially that of the leading American and European university publishing houses, and to introduce international publishing standards within Azerbaijan. KUP's personnel participate in various training programs (e.g. Business in Publishing, Marketing, Financial Management, etc.) conducted by international publishing experts in the United States, United Kingdom, Hungary, Poland, Georgia, Azerbaijan and others. Since 1998, KUP publications have been exhibited in various international exhibitions and fairs.

KUP is also functioning as the National Agency of ISBN and ISMN in Azerbaijan.
