“Introduction to distance learning :
On 15-19 December, 2008 was hold the International Workshops on “Development of e-learning Strategies” and “Introduction to distance learning : Instruments, methods and management”, organized by INWENT and their representatives. They were addressed to decisionmakers and multiplicators. The conferences was hosted by Khazar University (122 Bashir Safaroglu str.).

Lecturer at Khazar University
The Institute of Politics organized a lecture on the topic “The Future of the Middle East” given by Israeli Professor Barry Rubin, Director of Global Research for International Affairs (GLORIA) Center and Editor of Turkish Studies Journal on December 17, 2008. Director of the Institute of Politics Baba Bayramli thanked the guest lecturer for visiting Khazar University and introduced him to participants. Prof. Barry Rubin talked about the processes taking place in the wide Middle East region and perspectives of the Middle East peace process. Students asked the guest lecturer questions concerning problems of the region and made their comments.

about on-line versions of publications
At the seminar chaired by the rector of Khazar University, professor Hamlet Isaxanli there were discussed the problems of storage and upload of all kinds of materials published at Khazar University, in electronic space. There were also discussed the matters concerning the establishing of the unified rules of arrangement and dispatch of the documents within the University. A workgroup was set up and an appropriate order was decided to be prepared on the issue.

The rector of Khazar University, professor Hamlet Isaxanli had a regular meeting with foreign students. Having greeted the students and getting one-on-one acquaintance with each of them, the rector listened to their opinions and suggestions. The students talked about their problems and asked questions. The rector Hamlet Isaxanli cleared up the matters the students were interested in and answered all the questions.

After students being informed about Hamlet Isaxanli’s life and activity, the rector delivered a speech about the achievements of Khazar University in education and science, spoke of future plans and gave his recommendations related to the students’ education.

Presentation
of the book of “ Mejlis of Science and Art (1-10)”
There was held a presentation of the book “Mejlis of Science and Art (1-10)”- with an admirable typographical printing done by Khazar University Press. The rector of Khazar University, professor Hamlet Isaxanli took the floor and spoke about the significance of “Mejlis of Science and Art” that started to its regular activity since October 2006. The rector also remarked that since its inception the Mejlis has already conducted its twenty two successful meetings which have aroused a great deal of interest in scientific community and among the people of art. He noted the first book containing the materials of ten seminars which was being presented to the readers’ judgment with the assumption that the second book embracing the ten latest seminars to be published soon.

follow-up gathering of “Mejlis of Science and Art”
There was held the 22 rd follow-up gathering of “Mejlis of Science and Art”. It was dedicated to the topic of “Frederic Nietzsche – the most passionate philosopher of the history”. Opening the meeting, rector of Khazar University, professor Hamlet Isaxanli briefed the participants on the philosophical visions of the German philosopher of the XIX century. Instructor of Khazar University Aghalar Mammadov and the head of the department of Philosophy Mail Yagubov made reports on F. Nietzsche’s scientific and philosophic oeuvre.

The special ambassador of the US president at Islamic Conference Organization, Sada Camber took part at the round-table conference of “Modern Islam in Azerbaijan” held at Khazar University on November 22, 2008. The rector of Khazar University, professor Hamlet Isaxanli gave the guest warm greetings and introduced him to the participants. After Sada Camber’s delivered speech on the agenda, a series of discussions were held about the state of modern Islam in Azerbaijan and in the world. Professor Hamlet Isaxanli and Sada Camber exchanged views concerning the prospects for future cooperation.

US President’s Special Envoy at
Khazar University
Special Envoy of US President in the Organization of the Islamic Conference Sada Cumber visited Khazar University and participated at a round-table discussion on “Contemporary Islam in Azerbaijan” organized by the Institute of Politics on November 22, 2008. Founder and President of Khazar University Prof. Hamlet Isaxanli welcomed the guest and introdused him to the participants. Mr. Sada Cumber had a speech on the topic followed by intensive discussion. Participants asked questions and made comments on the role of contemporary Islam in Azerbaijan and in the whole world.

Political Science Students of
Khazar University among the Winners
Khazar University Political Science students Isgandar Aghayev, Fakhraddin Abdullayev, Emin Rustamov and Bakhtiyar Aslanov took the second place in the competition organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports among 16 universities of Azerbaijan Republic. They were awarded with a diploma signed by Minister of Youth and Sports of Azerbaijan Republic Azad Rahimov.

at Lyceum
A meeting was held with participation of the rector of Khazar University professor Hamlet Isaxanli, in Lyceum № 11 of Technical and Natural Sciences after Nizami. An Honorary Teacher of the Republic, Director of Lyceum and president’s stipend award Minara Tahirova opened the meeting.
Professor Camal Mustafayev widely described Hamlet Isaxanli`s creative activity particularly underlining his poetry and creative activities in educational and academic fields.
Hamlet Isaxanli made a speech at the meeting and spoke about his multilateral interests in the field of studies during his high school years. He emphasized the characteristics and importance of natural sciences and distinguished the necessary role of humanities in shaping personality. Furthermore he gave very interesting and valuable information to the pupils and teachers of his studentship years, starting of his academic career, and on his overseas travels and visits.
Mrs. Naile Isayeva, the Director of “Dunya” school at Khazar University spoke about the exemplary activity of Lyceum and expressed her intention to set relations between “Dunya” school and this Lyceum.

“Alliance of Universities for Democracy” held its 19th Annual Conference in Azerbaijan University of Languages. A conference related to finalization of Tempus project “Designing Quality Assurance Systems in Azerbaijani Universities” was held in Khazar University. Professor Hamlet Isaxanli, the rector of Khazar University made a speech in the conference. Project participant experts deployed from the Universities (Khazar University, Baku State University, Azerbaijan University of Languages, Winchester University of England, III Carlos Madrid University of Spain and Warsaw University of Poland) attended and lectured on various aspects of the system of Quality Assurance in Education. Khazar University is coordinator and Winchester University is grant holder of the project.
