Department of Chemistry was established in 1994.

The Department conducts research and delivers courses in the following fields of study:

• General, inorganic and organic chemistry (Chemistry I)

• Physical chemistry (Chemistry II)

• Oil chemistry

• Environmental chemistry
  

Chemistry is also offered as an elective course for the General Education Requirements for students of other schools of the university.

The Department has a laboratory for experimental and research works.

The department also offers opportunities to combine traditional disciplines with other sciences to explore basic and applied research problems.

Research interests of the department are:

• Oil chemistry

• Polymer chemistry, i.e. chemistry of high-molecular compounds

• Colloidal chemistry

• Chemical technology
