Khazar University Department of Political Science and International Relations announces a call for participation for the Model OSCE Conference in Baku, Azerbaijan on April 29th, 2012.

The Model OSCE Conference is a simulation of the session of the OSCE Permanent Council the OSCE that will provide university students with the opportunity to learn about security and co-operation in Europe and gain first-hand experience with international diplomacy.

During the Model OSCE conference 60 selected students from state and private Universities will discuss contemporary challenges within the politico-military, the economic and environmental, as well as the human dimension of security.


Prior to the conference, the participants will be trained on negotiation and public speaking skills and attend workshop on the OSCE’s activities and international relations in general, after which the students are expected to start extensive research on given case studies/topics.


A certificate of participation will be issued for those who attend all sessions.

The working language of the event will be English.


  • To give students from Azerbaijani Universities better knowledge of the OSCE, its values and activities, and Azerbaijan’s commitments to the OSCE. Its also aims to provide the younger generation with a comprehensive understanding of security and the importance of democracy in all institutions;
  • To promote dialogue and co-operation among young people and increase awareness among participants of the importance of dialogue in resolving potential conflicts with neighbouring states;
  • To raise awareness of the OSCE in Azerbaijan by launching discussions in the Universities on topics focusing on all three of the OSCE’s dimensions;

Eligibility criteria:

  • Both Undergraduate and Postgraduate students attending state and private universities;
  • Good level of English;
  • Interest in International Affairs;
  • Full participation and availability for the whole pre-conference and conference period;
  • Advancewriting and public speaking skills. In a course of the conference participants will be required to prepare position papers, write final reports, make an opening speech and actively participate in debates.
